International meeting in France around the flexible controlled atmosphere technology
Benoit Janny
On February 23rd, in Ventavon (Hautes-Alpes region, in the South-East of France), professionals of the apple sector met around the flexible controlled atmosphere technology, on M. Alexandre Bédérian’s farm.
Growers and advisers from France, Italy and Algeria, have had the possibility to observe the results of the long preservation of three varieties in Janny MT controlled atmosphere modules.
M. Bédérian explained to the attendees what the Janny MT equipment brought to him: the ability to increase of 20 tons (from 80 to 100 tons) the volume of apples sold on the most remunerative market segments, through retailing.
Even more interesting for the growers who made their way to M. Bédérian’s farm: the quality of the apples just out of CA bins. The three varieties offered a really good quality after a several months’ preservation in the modules, with firmness and taste at the top. A clear picture of the ability of Janny MT controlled atmosphere bins to preserve the quality of apples on the long term.
